ELSA UK First Call for Directors

If that sounds like you, ELSA UK First Call for Directors is your opportunity to get involved and help with the maintenance and growth of our Key and Supporting Areas. 

While no previous experience is necessary, although in certain more specific positions preferred,  we especially welcome applications from candidates with a good understanding of ELSA as well as strong communication and time-management skills. 

All you need to do is send your ELSA CV and Cover Letter (max 350 words) to the appropriate emails listed below. Additionally, an example of your graphic design work is required while applying for a position in Marketing.

Board Management, Expansion, and External Relations 

DIRECTOR FOR ADVOCACY

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing the Advocacy plan of ELSA UK

DIRECTOR FOR EXTERNAL RELATIONS

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • In charge of the external relations system of the national network
  • Assuring that the requests made by Local Groups and the National Board fall under the international and national regulations
  • Assist in the contacting of externals for partnerships

DIRECTOR FOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in Board and Network management

DIRECTOR FOR STRATEGY

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing National Strategic Goals for the National Board

Internal Management

DIRECTOR FOR INTERNAL MANAGEMENT

The Director for IM’s main responsibility is to assist the Sec Gen with his general duties which Includes:

  • Taking minutes during board meetings
  • Setting up the agenda for board meetings
  • Run workshops during NCM and Training Day
  • Assist in organising events such as NCM and Training Day

Requirements:

  • Time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Creativity
  • IT literacy (Mainly G-suite and meeting platforms)

Financial Management

DIRECTOR FOR ADMINISTRATION

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Treasurer with general tasks associated with the management of ELSA UK finances.
  • Assist with the development of FM projects, plans and initiatives.
  • Assist with the research and identification of any relevant opportunities such as grants, potential partnerships or sponsorships for ELSA UK.
  • Assist with the evaluation and consolidation of the financial strategy and budgets.
  • Carry out administrative and ad-hoc tasks such as paperwork and reviewing.

Requirements:

  • 1st-4th year undergraduate or Masters student;
  • From any degree background;
  • Developed research, organisation and time management skills;
  • Keen to get an insight into the National Board of ELSA UK;
  • Previous experience in ELSA, finance, or administration is a plus.

DIRECTOR FOR COMMUNICATIONS

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Treasurer with the research and identification of any relevant fundraising opportunities, such as grants, potential sponsorships or partnerships for local groups.
  • Manage the official FM Facebook group.
  • Keep local officers up to date with deadlines, reminders and opportunities.
  • Create content and ensure student engagement.
  • Respond to any enquiries.

Requirements:

  • 1st-4th year undergraduate or Masters student;
  • From any degree background;
  • Communication and time management skills;
  • Good knowledge of ELSA, particularly the FM side;
  • Keen to meet new people and get involved;
  • Previous experience in social media/marketing/content creation;
  • Relevant experience in editing software including Canva, Photoshop, etc.

Marketing

DIRECTOR FOR NEWSLETTER

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and publish the monthly ELSA UK newsletter
  • Create innovative and engaging newsletter content
  • Create interview questions and seek out potential interviewees

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in social media/marketing/content creation;
  • Relevant experience in editing software including Canva, Photoshop, etc.
  • A passion for writing and ELSA

DIRECTOR FOR SOCIAL MEDIA

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Help to develop a marketing strategy for the upcoming year.
  • Manage weekly posting schedule.
  • Create written content for social media posts.
  • Approach organisations for social media collaborations.

Requirements:

  • Time management and organisation skills
  • Previous experience in social media/marketing/content creation
  • Relevant experience in editing software including Canva, Photoshop, etc.

DIRECTOR FOR GRAPHIC DESIGN & EDITING

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Assist with creating content for social media accounts, including Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Editing videos and images.

Requirements:

  • Time management and organisation skills
  • Previous experience in social media/marketing/content creation
  • Relevant experience in editing software including Canva, Photoshop, etc.
  • Experience with video editing

Seminars and Conferences

DIRECTOR FOR SEMINAR INITIATIVES

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the VP for Seminars & Conferences on any initiatives that relate to the curation of knowledge acquisition events such as webinars, lectures, panel discussions etc.
  • Uphold the cross-departmental responsibility of supporting the development of new projects and initiatives that the Vice Presidents of the National Board seek to implement.
  • In charge of contacting speakers, managing sponsor relations, and curating programmes that support the vision and mission of these new initiatives.
  • Director for International Conferences
  • Act as co-director for the International Conference of ELSA (ICE) revolving around Cybersecurity, Data and Cyber-risk.

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Act as co-director for the International Conference of ELSA (ICE) revolving around Cybersecurity, Data and Cyber-risk.
  • Alongside the VP for Seminars & Conferences of the United Kingdom, you will be in charge of procuring and overseeing the Organising Committee of the ICE, managing speakers and developing a well-rounded strategy surrounding marketing and sponsorships to ensure that the conference runs smoothly and results in a net benefit for both the partners of the ICE and network at large.
  • Developing a sound strategy to organise the event physically and incorporating a hybrid approach for student engagement with the event.

    DIRECTOR FOR THE REFUGEE PROJECT

    Tasks/Responsibilities:

    • Solely responsible for the development, expansion and proliferation of the Refugee Project across local groups in the United Kingdom.
    • Providing technical support to the directors/local VP for Seminars & Conferences who are in charge of their respective RP’s.
    • Provide said directors with knowledge and information on how to develop a successful Refugee Project with your extensive experience in the area.

    DIRECTOR FOR KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT

    Tasks/Responsibilities:

    • Take on a leadership role and the shared responsibility of developing the area of Seminars & Conferences in the United Kingdom.
    • Work closely with the VP for Seminars & Conferences UK to develop a strategy to bring key area projects under S&C such as ELSA Law Schools and ELSA Delegations into the United Kingdom network.
    • Responsibilities include, without limitation to, attending workshops to curate handbooks for future VP for Seminars & Conferences, shadowing opportunities, and bolstering the role that Seminars & Conferences serves for the UK council to more than just a passive experience.

          STEP & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

          DIRECTOR FOR COMMUNICATIONS

          Tasks/Responsibilities:

          • Consolidate the existing strategies to ensure smooth and effective implementation of professional development projects
          • Maintain a Research and Internship Networking (RAIN) database with an overview of the Job Hunting progress of the network
          • Coordinate the collection of materials from local groups for the development of the ELSA UK Patreon
          • Assist local VPs in operating the STEP Online System
          • Ad hoc tasks such as processing of traineeship applications and general administrative work

          Requirements:

          • Demonstrated knowledge of ELSA Traineeships procedures, experience in professional development activities is beneficial
          • Excellent communication and time management skills
          • Good organisation

            Moot Court Competitions

            GENERAL DIRECTOR

            Tasks/Responsibilities:

            • Assist with team coordination
            • Assist with preparing relevant project materials
            • Assist with delivering workshops

            DIRECTOR FOR EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

            Tasks/Responsibilities:

            • Recruit and communicate with judges and coaches
            • Recruit and communicate with speakers for ceremonies
            • Receive, check and send written submissions to judges

            DIRECTOR FOR LOGISTICS

            Tasks/Responsibilities:

            • Communicate with venue and/or accommodation providers
            • Oversee rounds and receive judges, academics, coaches and participants
            • Organise opening and closing ceremonies, lunch and coffee breaks

            DIRECTOR FOR PARTICIPANTS

            Tasks/Responsibilities:

            • Oversee team registrations
            • Communicate routine updates to participants
            • Respond to participant queries
