The ELSA UK Negotiation Competition (ENC) is a simulation of a negotiation process between two parties. For this purpose, two teams consisting of two law students each representing a client or a party negotiate a legal dispute. These simulations will be observed and evaluated by a panel of judges who will be legal practitioners allowing participants to obtain advanced skills in the field of negotiation. One round of the competition will last approximately two hours. Participants will receive the case and confidential facts at least three days before the competition. There will be a pre-negotiation period where participants will have the chance to talk to the judges about their strategy, as well as a self-reflection period and feedback from the judges. The competition aims to enhance law students’ knowledge, practice and interest in legal negotiations, to help them develop negotiation skills, to experience what legal negotiations actually feel like and to facilitate interaction between students, lawyers and professional negotiators.
Teams must consist of two students from the same university. Depending on the number of teams signed up, the National Final Round may include one or more preliminary rounds prior to the Final Round. Teams, whose university does not have a local group, may register if each team member becomes an individual member of ELSA UK. Participants may register in teams.
Participants must be students and members of ELSA, however, no prior knowledge or negotiation experience is required.
